I have had this pole saw for 3 years. It cuts well and I have been able to cut a lot of branches that I wouldn't have been able to manage without this.It can be a bit heavy but not an issue if not at the edge of the extension. I weight is good to help keep the saw on what you are cutting. Never had much issue with kickback. I have a cordless pole saw that is lighter that kicks back a bit but the sun joe never has given me that issue. It is a true workhorse for a saw.2 main cons I have. The first is the bar oil does leak if you have it stored upright. Not a big deal for me, I fill it up each time I use it. The second issue is the end of life for the saw. The screw for the blade tightener stripped out and is now gone. I can no longer use the saw because without that one screw I can not tighten the blade. Would definitely have lasted longer had this not happen. I guess 3 years of use isn't too bad for the price.I would buy this pole saw if I was looking for a corded one. It is pretty powerful (more powerful than a cordless pole saw I have). It is very convenient and can power through just about anything you put it on.
I heat my home with self-cut firewood. This SunJoe pole saw has saved me time, effort, and money. It has more than paid for itself in less than one season. Cutting firewood is not cheap. Chains for gasoline saws are outrageously expensive these days. Then, there's the cost of fuel and chain oil. Plus, wear and tear on power saw. Additionally, have you ever climbed a ladder to cut an unwanted overhanging limb?...only to end up with a face full of foliage or injury? The SunJoe pole saw makes trimming limbs easy and safe. If you cut firewood, you know the hassle of dealing with the leftover branches and tree tops. I don't own a mulcher/shredder. Trimming small branches from the stalk can result in dangerous "stuttering" or kick back. It always wastes gas and oil, because you have to keep the power saw running while you reposition unwanted twigs for cutting. With the electric pole saw, I can easily trim the small branches from my fire wood. It costs less than twenty cents to make more than 300 cuts with the electric saw. Rarely will it take more than 10 seconds to make a cut. You can purchase three replacement electric saw chains for about the same price as ONE gas saw chain. In years past, I would salvage only the prime rounds of "splittable" wood to bring home; leaving the unused limbs to litter the forest floor. Now, I bundle up the limbs and drag them over to my saw buck for trimming with my SunJoe electric saw. (all my wood is cut from property accessible by my lawn tractor.) These smaller limbs have greatly added to my open fireplace efficiency in terms of kindling, as well as helping not-so-seasoned wood to reach ignition point. Initially, I bought the SunJoe electric pole saw to reduce shady areas on my newly seeded lawn. Since then, I have used it every time I harvest firewood. If you are within dragging distance of your sawbuck, bring those limbs home and use the electric saw. You won't regret it. The SunJoe electric pole saw is also a wonderful way to introduce your young kids or grandchildren about the fruits of labor. It is lightweight; and automatically shuts off when the trigger is released. I can't say this is the BEST pole saw on the market, because it is the first and only electric pole saw I've ever used. Nothing to compare. However, I have used a couple of electric chainsaws of standard design; and I wouldn't dare let a kid use them. This SunJoe electric pole saw gives a decent distance between blade and trigger for inexperienced hands. In closing, I want to remind you that chain oil has nothing to do with the type of saw engine. The SunJoe doesn't use as much oil per hour as a gas saw; it is not constantly running. But it does use the same amount per revolution. So, pay attention to reservoir levels. Purchase chain oil by the gallon to save a lot of money.
Easy to use, clean, disassemble-reassemble, and effective when cutting branches and other vegetation of good size. After years of using a previous and similar product, this specific product was on the friendly budget side and it is really a great machine to operate and have for tree-trimming.Word of advice when cutting down tree branches and the sort, use long-sleeves, eye protection, ear protection (optional but keeps the debris from landing in your ears), gloves, and a helmet (or hat) to avoid injury and the debris from going into your hair.Overall, great product and the instructions are pretty simple when it comes to assembly/disassembly and the process of ordering parts when they're damaged or worn-out.
This is a good product and was very helpful to me. As I am getting older, I don't like to climb ladders with power saws and other tools because father time catches up with all of us. This was a very worthwhile approximate $75 investment. Thank being said, here are he Pros & Cons:PROS:* Very sharp (when new) and the weight of it allows gravity to do the work.* Cuts thru most limbs effortlessly.* Fantastic for not having to climb to reach most branches.* Easy to assemble and adjust belt tension.* Overall, a great yard tool for my collection.CONS:* Not as lightweight as the description would have you believe. I am VERY skeptical about a young petite housewife manhandling this like it is nothing (like the ad shows). Remember, it is a small chainsaw at the end of a 6 or 7 foot pole and even holding a broom straight out is not simple. Bottom line, it is not heavy, but it certainly is not lightweight either.* One of the above reviews said it worked for a half hour and the chain fell off and kept doing that. My did a similar thing BUT, I found that your cuts must be straight, not angled or the chain will snag and come off. THEN, you must check closely to see why it happens repeatedly and I found that two of the links had burrs on them that made for too tight of fit in the channel that holds the chain. I deburred them with a very small grinder and the problem went away. Basically, cut straight and pay attention to details. Examine your chain closely!I would buy this tool again or recommend it, but I purchased the 3 year extended warranty that starts after the mfr two year warranty so I am good for five years! Not bad for a total of about $85 for parts and warranty.
I needed a chainsaw with a telescopic pole to trim trees. I never heard of Sunjoe but thought I'd take a chance. This one fit the bill! It's very strong and cuts down small limbs like butter! You can easily adjust the length of the saw by way of a strong click clamp that's built into the pole. You can also adjust the chain saw head unit in several angles that will help you to lock onto the tree limb and it basically supports it's own weight. Easy to use and operate. I was able to install and align the chain with one hand. After several hours of use the chain came loose one time. With the included tool, I was able to put the chain back on in under 2 minutes. Hasn't gotten loose again. The included tool has a slotted screwdriver to keep the chain tight. This does NOT come with oil for the chainsaw so you must buy that separately. Only oil suitable for chainsaws is what is required. Very low kickback and many safety guards to keep the user safe. Definitely recommended. 😎 I would post a pic but the product pics are totally accurate enough.
read the safety manual 3 times before i actually used it. never had a chain saw before... Finally used it. Loved it. Worked great, fast, easy, no problem.... Did the job, trimmed the tree.
I had low expectations, but this has proven to be an outstanding purchase. It's reliable, fast, easy to use, light weight. Go Sun Joe!
You can always dislike something about a product. In this case … nothing. It does exactly what is advertised… and it cuts thru like butter. Effortlessly. I’m a big dude and handling this was not an issue … even fully extended… and … it is powerful and effective in cutting. I’m a dummy for not purchasing one several years ago. It is actually fun to cut thru branches … pruning trees and higher shrubs. I opted for electric rather than battery … 2 reasons … it will never run out of juice while trimming and it was a cheaper/economical option. If you own a property… this is a must have for basic projects. I bought it for trimming branches post a heavy windstorm that severed a 40 foot tree in two parts. I used a chainsaw for the over 12” trunks … and the saw for anything around 10” (thickness of the saw attachment). This thing made my job much easier and I saved 2thousand$ just cutting and trimming the damaged tree. And … it gives you comfort knowing that you can maneuver in ways that you are unable to with a chain saw. Hope you find this tool effective and efficient as I do.
This saw is easy to adjust to length . I choose corded because I don't need any more batteries to charge. adjustable head would be better if at a greater angle. Bar oil lasts thru the jobs I did very well. A very good value at the price.
For those people who think it is heavy, you have a powerful motor on a pole away from your center of gravity. Yes, if you have a weak upper body it will seem a little heavy and awkward, but, it is a lot safer than being up on a ladder reaching out with a lighter less powerful machine that creates slower cuts and fall hazards. It is corded so battery does not give out part way through cut leaving a widow maker hanging over peoples heads. When the saw is new oil takes a little while to reach the chain. After that oil will leak as long as there is oil in the machine. I hang mine above a dollar store tub of cheap kitty litter. ( Never on it ) Best advice is follow the instructions, follow the instructions. That can’t be repeated enough. Keep tools on hand so as not to have excuse to put off what should be done now for even a few a few minutes. The list is short; number 13 metric wrench, flat head screwdriver, bar chain oil. OCD people like me will want a spare chain on hand as well. Did I mention FOLLOW THE INSTRUCTIONS. One last thing about the weight issue I am 73 years old and I just consider it a way to keep myself in better shape. The saw gives me clean cuts regardless of whether I am cutting high or low. I don’t bend over as easily as I once did. If you cut a lot of wood containing high level of pitch such as pine, eucalyptus, etc. Be sure that at break times and the end of the day or job that you clean the bar and chain with a good pitch remover and wipe the bar and chain down with bar and chain oil.
