BACKGROUND: After retiring to Florida in 2013, in 2021 I ended up on a tiny property with nine Palm Trees, some over 25' tall. What a MESS THEY WERE !!!!! The former owner had not touched them in years. I hired a crew to come in and clean them up, trim them and get them ready for Hurricane Season. Almost $1,000 ( but they also got them in great shape and hauled away a Mountain of Palm Tree $#%&, so just one of those "Joys" of home ownership. I thought: "Now I will be able to 'maintain' them". I just needed a pole saw... **SHOPPING**: I looked and looked all over on-line ( HD, Lowe's, Ace, Amazon and some specialty lawn&garden websites ). It took some looking. I had been told Exactly what to get, including that it HAD to have the short 'Claw' at the bottom of the curved blade !!!. I finally settled on the 14' Hooyman Extendable 3-Section Tree Saw. I have used it for six months now and it just WORKS and WORKS REALLY WELL !!!!! The pole extends easily, but is still solid enough that I can easily slice off some really big 3" stuff, sometimes in just 3 or 4 sharp pulls with the blade ( and Palm Trees are TOUGH ) !!! THE BLADE: That Curved Blade, Hook at the Tip and 'Claw' at the bottom is CRAZY GOOD !!!! AMAZING !!!! Really Sharp, it is Stainless Steel and doesn't Rust !!!! The Teeth have just the right Shapes and Sets, for what I need and it seems to be holding up VERY WELL - Still Razor Sharp after 40 ? - 50 ? Cuts through Heavy Palm ( 50 Lb Seed "Pods", palm fronds, branches ? stalks ? - I don't know the names ), but all of the other $#%& that these trees throw off monthly !!!! Awful, Filthy, Messy Trees - GREAT POLE SAW !!!! Can't say enough about HOW GOOD IT HAS BEEN !!!! I've had (cheap) lopping/pruning pole saws in the past - all pretty much junk. THIS SAW IS ***FANTASTIC***. I'm sorry that replacement blades are not offered, but ( IF ) mine eventually gets to where it is taking a lot more work to cut, I will take it to a Pro and let them re-sharpen it !!!! - Don -
finding an inexpensive tree pruning saw that is affordable and is not junk is a difficult feat. what I really like about this product (i have only used it a few times), is that the blade, though not Silky, is very sharp and not overly thick and clunky. the extension of the gaf is stable and seemeingly well designed and manufatured. that I can carry it in a pack or a panier is fantastic for me — an urban pruner. The snap-on saw, allowing me to use the saw without the pole is VERY efficient to me.Nice r&d, guys. I really dig this product.
TL;DR: performed flawlessly for a quick job around the house and clearing out some heavy, thick brush in the woods.Ordered this product back in June '19 for a branch that was intruding on my front porch/ upstairs window. Needless to say, it made very short work of that. Fast forward a few months to the start of hunting season (Oct/ Nov). We needed to put up a few stands and perform some long-overdue maintenance on a fourth. We allotted ourselves the entire weekend seeing as going into it, we all knew it was going to be a lot of work and didn't think 1 day was enough to knock it all out. To make a longer story even shorter, we were able to get all 3 stands up AND cut out shooting lanes for all 4 stands by the early afternoon on the first day!About the only flaws I found with it are: 1) price. it's not unreasonable but wish replacement blades were cheaper; 2) you need to be careful of the cutting angle on it. had to try to bend the blade back into a "straight" line a few times when it got away from me being fully extendedAll in all, I am very happy with my purchase and so were the people helping me that day since they already purchased one for themselves.
Used this to get some tree limbs off our power line. Worked well. So, I went to pruning other trees. Had a Hackberry that had split and was threatening to crush a fence. Limbed it first and then cut through the trunk which was maybe 6" dia. Then I attacked the Hackberry over the camper. These nasty trees grow really fast and expel this nasty black stuff all over everything. Useless tree. I was able to give that tree a severe hair cut and get the branches cut farther back.Today I am headed out to help a friend with and Oak. Most of it will be chainsaw work, but some above the house will need trimming. He asked me if I had gotten my pole saw I had ordered, and how well it had performed. He asked me if it was running? Told him that it runs all day long, fuel is not a problem. He asked if the blade was still sharp? Told him those Hackberry's are real soft wood and didn't dull it a bit. He asked how far it would reach? Bout 14 foot and whatever your body height is. He offered to buy oil and gas for it, told him don't bother. Won't be needing either. He said "I thought you said your pole saw was running?"......I said "Yes, it is....all day long, as long as YOU can keep sawing!" ...............LOL! He's headed to the store to buy another 10" bar and chain for his electric pole saw. Guess he just won't take my word for how well this saw actually cuts.
I got this to replace my basic hand saw and with the lightweight stick that comes with it its great for cutting shooting lanes and those too high to reach branches.
This thing is very compact and can fit in my backpack for those first sits in my stands for the season. Branches tend to sag or grow in the way over the summer and it is great to have something on hand to get rid of them. It is very sharp and easy to use. It can be extended one section at a time to make the length fit whatever is needed. I was very surprised by the reach of this once it was fully extended. If I lose this one I will buy another. Great tool.
Great stick saw. I am an arborist and bought this not expecting very much for the money but this little polesaw has really surprised me... going on 5 months and blade is still relatively sharp blade is well designed and allows for long strokes that are smooth, pole has a plenty of reach. This Saw is very light and not all that durable but for the money it's hard to beat I recommend this to home owned for suckers or epicormic growth however, if you have the time and strength this little saw could take on bigger task
This easily cut cattails around my pond. I’m a retired lady, and the fully extended length was easy for me to handle.
Work good.Blade could be thicker, bends too much while cutting.
I like this because it cuts fantastically and also has the extension that is perfect for low to mid hanging limbs.
