Nice saw work as it should and has a good reach. It dose have right much flex in the shaft but easy to assemble and work with.

I purchased this pole saw because we live in southern Tennessee and have a large lot surrounded by trees and bushes. The trees and bushes and vines continually encroach upon our cleared areas. The saw required really NO assembly other than putting the pole sections together, which is very simple and secure. The 20v 4Ah Li-Ion battery charges quickly. (I've thought about buying a back-up battery, but my routine is to cut branches for 20-30 minutes, put the battery on charge--even if not out of juice--and then use that time to clean the saw, tighten the chain, and drag all the the cut branches to the collection pile). I'd read other reviews criticizing the need (with this DeWalt saw) to empty the bar oil from the reservoir after each use--this is a little bit of a negative but when I am actively working on a trimming project, I'll just store the saw in a position that doesn't allow it to leak, and when I store the saw for long periods, I drain the oil (I only use biodegradable oil). I've had no trouble cutting branches or trees 6 inches in diameter. I've had no trouble with the chain losing tension over what I'd expect after 20-30 minutes of use. Very easy to tighten--don't have to disassemble anything. My only real complaint is that the saw works so well that I cut so many branches and small trees that it takes much more energy dragging all that cut stuff to the collection pile! (Need a little yard tractor and trailer!)

This saw surprised me. Much stronger, faster cutting and longer lasting battery. Got to help clean up storm damage. Proved to be extra handy and useful.Pecan/hickory tree limb.Got some time using this saw under my belt.Overall the saw is performing well. Cuts fast. Cautious and trying to be gentle. With the middle extension it is a little wobbly. Most of the time just use the two main pieces. Chain stays sharp and easy to adjust.Storing after putting oil in is a problem. Instructions says to empty oil after use. I don’t. What I do is store in a plastic 5 gallon bucket with an old tee shirt in the bottom. Store a spare chain, all three pole pieces and some bar chain oil with space for more. Stored like this if it drips it is contained. The oil tank and bar are below the motor.Surprised how fast this cuts 6-7” hardwood. Cut thru a 10” hackberry cutting from both sides. Just be careful if the bar gets pinched move the limb instead of forcing the saw to get free.Been carrying on tractor to cut the smaller stuff and grape vines clearing storm damage. Nice not to have to start up the big saw and the extra reach is every nice. Can grab a grapple full of debris and cut the vines and stuff that is too long to carry off.

Another tool to make us drool from Dewalt. I have a Stihl pole chainsaw, gas powered. It's a beast. That's the fastest cutting chain saw I've ever used. But... yes there's a but... although it actually weighs 20 lbs, it's far too heavy to be very useful. 20 lbs doesn't sound very heavy, but when you've extended your arms out away from your body to cut something, 20 lbs is exhausting. I can cut 1 branch with it then have to rest awhile, & I can only do that a couple times before I can't go on.So when my son showed me Dewalt's battery pole chain saw, & it weighed only 10 lbs, I had to get it for my body's sake. Now, having used it, I'm pleased overall with my purchase. This thing is so much easier to lift & hold out away from your body. I cut a bunch of limbs off a tree yesterday & could have kept going. It takes the same battery packs that the other Dewalt tools do & that's a fantastic decision they made. I have about 10 different Dewalt battery powered tools & they're all quality tools. This saw is easy to assemble, very user friendly, & handy as heck if you're a homeowner with trees. I was cutting tree limbs with it that I didn't have the strength to cut with my Stihl. I do wish Dewalt made extra extension bars for it, but they don't. I have a complaint that someone else mentioned in the reviews - these saws are shipped with the chain tension incorrectly set - far too tight. Beware of that if you buy one. As soon as you get your saw, adjust the tension. And while you're at it, put oil in the chain oiler 'cause they come dry. The 2nd complaint I have is... these saws are slightly underpowered, which causes 2 issues: 1) the saw wants to dance around on the surface of whatever limb you want to cut instead of powering through it. The chain moves much slower than a gas saw does, so it doesn't cut anywhere near as fast & that's what causes this dancing around. 2) the saw often bogs down when trying to cut, & the reason why is because it's underpowered. A gas saw will never do this. Dewalt says in the instructions to get the saw turning full blast BEFORE moving the blade down onto the limb. You have to get a running start for this saw to perform. I really wish Dewalt would have amped up this tool. If they had I would give them 5 stars. In spite of these 2 issues, it's easy to work around them & compensate for the low power. The most important factor in Dewalt's favor is how they kept the weight of the tool down. That's far more important than the low power. A powerful saw is worthless if it's too heavy to use.

I didn’t figure the vibration would be as much and it got heavy after a bit to use but did great work!

  • KG

Works great as it is advertised, pole saw. Would be nice if the head detached and you could use it at a chainsaw.

  • Wendy Miller

Powerful little saw! Runs longer with a 6ah battery. Relatively lightweight. It is a little top heavy as the motor is on the saw end but not a problem once you get used to it. The extra extension pole makes it very awkward and more difficult to handle. However, it is a great little saw!The only caveat is that you must tighten up the middle of the pole connection after a while of use as the vibrations loosen it. Easy to use.

This is a great tool - in the Dewalt line. The 20V max battery means you will likely run out of arm strength before the battery runs down. The three sections are easily connected and disconnected. The pole and saw are mostly balanced by the weight of the battery - but this is still a heavy tool that you will be using to reach high branches. This tool is ready to use - except for the oil to lubricate the bar. Readily available at your home center. The motor doesn’t turn the blade at the same RPM as a gas engine would. Cutting smaller dead branches is quite easy. Cutting larger limbs will be a challenge to one’s arm and shoulder muscles. It took me less than 20 minutes to trim out the dead wood from my honey locust tree - a neighbor with the same tree paid $600 to have a contractor remove the dead wood from his tree. The battery charger is included. I keep one charger in my garage for the pole saw and another charger in my downstairs wood shop for my Dewalt drill and impactor. The batteries are interchangeable. One could work for hours just by swapping batteries between two or more tools. Please note: Replacement chains are readily available and reasonably pricedDewalt advises not operating this saw from any kind of ladder. Swinging the entire assembly is tough enough - using a ladder might be downright dangerous.I am very pleased with the tool - its design and construction - and expect to use this pole saw for years to come.

Overall it seems to do what it was intended for. The pros; Its weight is mostly in the front where the chain is so all you have to do is lay it on the branch and pull the trigger. It seems pretty durable and makes short work of a tree limb. Seems to last pretty long on a battery. The cons; you should empty the oil after every use so you don’t leak oil in your car or work bench or puf a plastic bag over the chain when transporting it. The tool it comes with is just an angled regular and Allen wrench combined. To tighten the chain it requires good hand coordination in using the tool provided. The tool inserts into the chain cover and I lost the chain cover so i had to order another tool. It would be beneficial to put the chain tightener on the outside cover like most saws so your not struggling to tighten the chain. Or better yet make the allen screws into bolts so you could use any chain saw tightening tool that comes with most chain saws! It be nice if you could have made the pole saw to break down and you could just use the saw as a hand held saw like Milwaukees. Kinda makes you have to purchase another handheld saw to do this which was probably Dewalts intension to increase sales.

Good design, easy to assemble and use. Well designed with excellent quality and it does well what is was designed for. When fully assembled and held out horizontally it is heavy but when held more vertically as it will usually be positioned to work it uses the weight to your advantage to rest on the limb and facilitate the cutting process.
