This is my second EGO Blower and it works great. The old one is still working fine, but the batteries just died. I got this one during Black Friday and it came with five-amp batteries, which was a good deal. It was actually cheaper to buy the whole blower with the charger and the battery than to buy the battery alone. This new blower is more powerful than the old one, but the downside is that the batteries are expensive and don't last more than two years with moderate usage. It's not heavy to carry and easy to control when blowing tree leaves, making it very maneuverable. However, after some time, it gets heavy, so it's important to take a break and then get back at it.
Prior to purchasing my Ego 650 Blower I owned an Echo gas leaf blower that I received from a friend for free since it didn't work. IhHad to invest $80 right off the bat to have it rebuilt and working well. It worked great for the entire time I owned it but after finding the Ego family of tools I decided to make the switch. This was my first purchase in the Ego family since it's a relatively low cost commitment (compared to some of the other tools) and readily available. Let me tell you what, I have loved this tool every day since I have had it!Power: Easily just as powerful as my Echo. I won't say more since it's not a dramatic difference but there are so many other reasons I love this tool over the gas alternatives that I'll talk about below.Run time: This particular model ones comes with the 5ah battery but any of the Ego batteries will work in it; 2.5ah, 7.5ah, 10ah, or the anticipated 12ah. They will all work if you want a longer run time you can get one of the larger batteries but there will be a weight difference with each of these. Larger ah = larger battery = heavier. But with regard to the 5ah, I would say typically 30-40 minutes at full throttle. There is also a TURBO button that will blow you away (pun intended) and this will reduce that run time down to about 20 minutes ish. Sound low? Realistically, I am rarely running this continuously at full throttle. You stop to pick up sticks or grab a drink or the kids jump in your pile of leaves so your 30-40 min turns into longer. Compared to my Echo, this is about the same for a tank of gas. MAYBE a little longer run time on the gas but it certainly wasn't a lot.Ease of use: Simple. No gas, no mixing, no pulling a cord, no choke, no fumes, no waiting for it to "warm up" before you get full performance. Slide your battery into the slot and hit the button. You're blowing instantly. My wife used it one time to blow some dirt out of the garage and I got a text "Why didn't you tell me this thing was so much fun!?" She's on to me!Uses: It doesn't just blow leaves. I also enjoy woodworking and this is where I use the tool the most. When building a project in my garage things tend to get dusty. I can have this on the floor and whenever I need to clean up the space after some cuts, I can do it quickly with no extra fumes or having to start it every time. I also use it to dry my truck off after I wash it. I live in Colorado and we get snow, so I've used it to clear off the driveway, stairs, porch, and vehicles (there may be some static shock with this use so heads up on that.)This will come with a basic charger that will charge your battery back to full in a few hours but if you go with some of the larger Ego products (snow blower, mower) they will come with a rapid charger that will charge the battery from dead to full in less than an hour. Amazon also has the rapid charger for purchase. This is a long way of saying this is an amazing tool and you won't regret this purchase. There is a brand new model with more power (765 CFM) but this bad boy will not disappoint.
I previously bought some ryobi battery yard tools that were just ok. Build quality and battery life were not the best but it was a tiny yard in So FL so didn’t need much. Now with over 1/4 acre and lots of trees out back, I decided to try this ego based on many reviews. I’ve been really happy with it. The default power level is generally enough to clear leaves from the lawn with a few power bursts as they eventually build up. Battery life was better than I expected for nearly constant blowing stopping only to switch hands. When the battery gave out, I was mostly done and ready for a break. A few days later I cleared off the new fallen leaves and some residual leaves plus I cleared the front lawn and driveway with the one charge with a bit of power left over for short session the next day. On my third full charge now and it does well for a minor cleanup every few days. I’m really happy I decided on this 650 model. Build quality, the plastic parts, the fit and finish all seem to be high quality. Come spring, I’ll probably get one of their mowers. Batteries are pretty expensive but avoiding the gas and oil for this size lawn makes sense for me.
This is the holy grail of leaf blowers & the battery lasts a long time. Whoa! The leaf blower itself is a little heavy but to hold all that battery power it has to be! I’ve used it to blow snow off my truck, walkway and steps. This is a GREAT tool and not just for leaves.
The blower is definitely powerful but certainly doesn't last the 90 minutes it claims to. I didn't even have it on full power and it lasted a little over 15 minutes. The battery does charge fairly quickly but you'll have to find another task to start while that's going on. The blower is also a bit on the heavy side but it beats having a cord to wrestle with or gas to buy. Overall a sturdy tool and super powerful but lacking in battery life.
This is a really high quality product and very convenient to use. I would suggest buying a second battery if you have a large yard. Not having to deal with dragging around an extension cord or tying to get a gas model to start is an eye opener. I find that I use my blower way more often for both large and small projects. This one is reasonably light and super powerful. I am very pleased with the product.
Let me preface this by saying I don't live in a manicured lawn area. I have an acre of heavily treed property with an older house and the lawn is mostly dirt...in Florida. Our trees drop a ton of leaves, it rains often so the leaves can be wet at times, and our concrete driveway is 100ft long with dirt/sand/ and barely lawn (we also have an uncaged pool with trees all around in the backyard). Lots of areas that need to be blown off fairly often. When I went from corded to the Greenworks 40v Blower several years ago I bought into the ecosystem. Pole saw, 16" chainsaw, hedge trimmer too. Everything still works to this day...no problems. But I just needed more from the blower. It was the best one from Greenworks at the time...165mph blah blah. When things got piled up or there was dirt or wetness involved I just might as well put it away. Or grab the rake first for the big piles and then blow the remaining dirt.I was getting frustrated after some years and I know I had outgrown the 40V blower with my needs. After tons of research I settled on this 650cfm model. I'm not rich so I have to plan and watch videos of people blowing leaves (not helpful btw) and reading tests. In the end I bit the bullet on this EGO and maybe it will be good enough to upgrade ecosystems later.Well let me tell you...this blower is ridiculously powerful. Wet or dry it moves everything away from you...far away. I used to have to get right on top of leaves sometimes where now I just aim from 10ft away and everything in my path is gone. Areas along the edge of my driveway that had caked in dirt...you can see the dirt just being dissolved into the wind. Before where I would blow leaves into a pile that eventually couldn't be moved and needed raking...the pile is blown wherever I want. It is crazy. A fully charged battery lasts at least 20-30mins...I honestly haven't blown long enough on a fully charged battery to find out.So if you are on the fence about spending this much on a blower but need more power than most consumer blowers...just get it. You won't be disappointed.I also considered Makita because I have some Makita cordless hand tools. But their blower isn't as powerful and getting into their yard tool eco system is ridiculously expensive...like a pole saw is over $700 (without battery) compared to less than half that for EGO.So I highly recommend this blower!
i've used this for clearing leaves, light snow, and general yard/tree debris from my sidewalks, driveway, and porch(es). Unlike (extremely) noisy gas blowers, you don't even need hearing protection to use these (or worry about your neighbors cursing you for the noise). Was very effective with all the above; I get about 30 mins of blowing from it - with some turbo button usage. My arm does get a little tired from the weight after 10-15 mins and a switch to the other arm; and then bak and forth. There's nozzle pieces for more focused air blowing (wide slot).I like this unit's versatility and lightweight quite a bit. I actually have the EGO Comm'l backpack blower as well (and a lot of trees...); found I use this smaller blower a lot more...
UPDATE- #1-within hours of submitting this review and before it was even “approved” and posted by Amazon, I received a call from Ego CS. Kudos to them. As such, my failed blower has now been approved to be dropped off at the nearest repair facility (15+ miles). I suspect they’ll replace the motor and then hopefully I’ll have a functioning spare… Yet still, this entire process is much too slow if you’re one who uses/needs your yard equipment weekly. Thus having a spare of another brand is almost a necessity.—————////————-////—————-🔽Update #2-two days later/gets worse!‼️ After speaking with the Ego CS person they gave me insight and direction as to what to expect and what to do in regards to their warranty claims process. That conversation was followed up with a directive email that had to be printed and taken, with the receipt along with the defective blower to their authorized repair facility. Only upon drop-off does one learn there’s a $60 (+tx) charge which was NEVER mentioned previously by Ego either on the phone or in the email‼️ WHY❓That fee is supposedly refundable once Ego determines the warranty claim to be approved. And I guess they keep your $60+ if it’s somehow determined otherwise(?). If approved, the customer is then refunded the $60+ ONLY AFTER the repair facility receives their reimbursement from Ego. Which apparently takes forever. All-in-all the service guy told me that based on their typical experience with Ego, the entire process can take…. Get this- 6/7 months! UNBELIEVABLE that it would take anywhere near this long and UNBELIEVABLE that Ego never once mentions the $60 fee to have their defective machine evaluated by their designated repair facility! Then there’s also what the heck are you supposed to do about your yard while Ego is asleep with your money and your defective Ego machine??????🔽————- UPDATE # 3 ——————🔽To recap; 13 month old 650 blower stopped working on 11/24/22. Email and phone call/VM stating such was sent to Ego on that date. After some chasing and an exchange of phone calls/emails I dropped the blower off at their designated repair facility on 12/18/22. A mandatory, potentially refundable surprise cost= $60+ tax ($64.95).Per the repair facility; after evaluation they determined that the failure is indeed covered under warranty and sent notification to Ego requesting a replacement blower on 12/28/22.Today is 01/18/23 nearly two months post blower failure , ten days after replacement request and I still do not have a replacement blower or the $60+ I paid to have the defective tool diagnosed 🕰️🤬Keep in mind that the repair facility has this blower in-stock and available for sale.*Meanwhile the leaves continue to fall….🔽—————-UPDATE #4———————🔽1/26/24- Received replacement blower from Ego via UPS. Yea!Two months in and almost done‼️Now I am only needing my $64.95 service evaluation fee refund..💰AND I have to drive/retrieve my battery from the repair facility in a neighboring town.All-in-all, this process is a major untimely and time consuming ordeal…——————UPDATE #5 ———————2/22/24- Went the the authorized repair facility and was able to pick-up both my battery AND my $64.95 tool evaluation REFUND 😃.So just shy of three months to successfully complete the warranty claims process‼️ Your luck may vary…———- INITIAL/ORIGINAL POST ————-This is my second purchase of this blower. Previous one served all my needs very well for 13 months. Then it died. No problem, within the warranty period you say? Welp-I called the Ego customer service # left a message (ALWAYS get recorder) explaining my situation. NO RETURN CALL/IGNORED.Sent an email with pictures, basically submitting my warranty claim NO REPLY/IGNORED.I went through this exact same ordeal when I purchased my Ego mower two years ago and the 7.5 battery died six months into ownership. Became nearly a full-time job and took weeks to finally speak with a customer service rep after which they finally replaced the defective battery. I was more dedicated to the cause/persistent then as I had just spent $800 for six months (dozen times?) of use.My take? Their stuff is good/works well. But unless you hardly ever utilize, either the machine or the battery will die a premature death well within the stated warranty period. Then= GOOD LUCK/hope you have A LOT of time and patience to pursue/chase because they make it as difficult as they possibly can to submit and actually utilize the warranty that’s supposedly afforded. So much so a class action filling may very much be in order as it is their well documented MO to ignore folks with warranty claims.
My previous leaf blower (LB5750) worked well but the new and improved LB6504 is a big step up. The LB5750 controller shorted out after extended use on my old leaf blower. It lasted for about 6 years which seemed decent but I was hoping I could just fix it since it was past the warranty period. I got my broken leaf blower working for a bit then I decided to extend the wires leading from the potentiometer to a cheap bldc controller so I could mount the board closer to the middle of the exhaust. Unfortunately I think I messed up soldering and as a result the potentiometer 28 gauge ground wire burned a bit inside the housing of the connector. The electric assembly just seemed more expensive than it was worth. Also I wanted to have fun learning by taking the EGO blower apart only because the warranty expired. Honestly the LB5750 is a bit of a beast if you manage to fix it while improving it but also keeping the bldc controller well cooled. The LB6504 on the other hand seems more reliable so far and has quite a bit more power when the turbo button is engaged. I would suggest using this leaf blower only when its not raining, snowing, or hailing and always bring it inside as that is how I managed to prolong the life of my older model leaf blower. I also always stored my ego batteries inside the house. I would suggest avoid taking the leaf blower apart and contact EGO if you have any issues and hopefully they can resolve them. It still might be cheaper to have EGO fix your leaf blower after the warranty is expired, I'm not too sure. Taking the blower apart most likely instantly voids your warranty if it was still in effect. One Suggestion for EGO is that they should allow consumers to replace the fuses for their leaf blowers. Even if the fuse was inline it would be nice if there was a small compartment where you could access the fuse without voiding your warranty so it could be like a gas powered lawn mower when you need to replace a spark plug.Another suggestion for EGO would be to sell each individual part from the electric assembly for all of their leaf blower models and to lower the prices a bit for each component and I would imagine they would attract a wider audience with their battery powered tools.
